Introducing the AV Edge First Responder Wellness Program
This program means a lot to me. Both of my sons are firefighters. I've seen the early alarms, the missed holidays, and how hard it is to come down after a tough shift.
That's why we started the AV Edge First Responder Wellness Program for firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, police officers, sheriff deputies, dispatchers, and the families who support them.
Always On, Always Connected
First responders are surrounded by modern technology all the time. It's at the station and the hospital. It's in the engine, ladder, truck, ambulance, and patrol unit. And it's on the radio, the tablet, and the phone that never really goes quiet.
On top of that, the job keeps your body ready for action. When the tones drop, you go into fight mode, and you have to. The hard part is coming back out of it. Switching off after a call, job, or run isn't easy when your body is still on alert.
The research shows how much this adds up:
-
In a study of professional firefighters published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 59% were classified as sleep deprived.
-
A 2024 study of firefighters on 24/48 and 48/96 schedules found the shortest sleep came the night before a shift, at about 5.5 to 5.6 hours.
-
A U.S. Fire Administration Executive Fire Officer research paper reported that up to 60% of firefighters have lingering stress effects.
Recovery isn't a luxury in this job. It's part of staying ready for the next call.
Nervous System Balance & Vitality
AV Edge technology uses frequencies. Our wristbands are designed to work with your body's natural rhythms and support a sense of balance in a tech-heavy work environment.
In AV Edge internal R&D observations, heart rate variability (HRV) and galvanic skin response (GSR) readings suggested a move away from a stress response and toward a calmer "rest and digest" state when frequency technology was introduced.
Those same internal observations looked at the Rouleaux Effect, where red blood cells clump together like stacks of coins (a problem exacerbated by modern technology). They suggested the cells may separate and flow more freely once the frequency technology was introduced. In a separate internal ATP study, we tested water samples for ATP, the energy currency of your cells. Those readings rose after 10 minutes of exposure to the frequency technology.
We share these results because they're the reason we're excited about the technology. Better blood flow and cellular energy are the building blocks of focus and resilience.
Please note: these are internal observations. They aren't peer-reviewed, and they aren't a formal clinical or scientific study. The ATP test used water samples, not people.
Observed Physical Response
In the Dr. Mark Bull PhD study, Category 1 golfers wearing an AV Edge wristband showed increased pelvic and thorax acceleration and club head speed. That points to better biomechanical efficiency and coordination.
That study looked at golfers, not first responders. But coordination and quick physical responses matter on every call, whether you're climbing a ladder, moving a patient, or getting out of a patrol unit fast. That's why we think it's worth sharing with the responder community.
How EF Technology Can Fit into Each Role
- Firefighters – Designed to support daily comfort during long shifts, heavy gear use, and periods of rest between calls.
- EMTs and Paramedics – Designed to support daily routines during back-to-back runs, long hours on the road, and irregular schedules.
- Police Officers and Sheriff Deputies – Designed to support daily focus and comfort during long patrol shifts and off-duty winding down.
- Dispatchers – Designed to support daily comfort and focus through high-stress calls and screen-heavy overnight shifts.
A Drug-Free, Non-Invasive Option
Whether you want to stay focused at work or support your body through stressful stretches, AV Edge potentially, gives you a drug-free, non-invasive way to keep your mental and emotional edge.
The AV Edge Legend Wristband and Advanced Wristband are light and comfortable enough to wear on shift, off shift, and while you sleep.
Getting the most from your wristband:
-
Wear it 24/7. On shift, off shift, and overnight.
-
Give it time. We recommend at least four weeks of continuous wear.
-
Pair it with good habits. Protect the night before a shift, drink plenty of water, and build a simple "shift's over" routine.
-
Try the Balance Test. See it for yourself with the AV Edge Balance Test.
-
Replace it every 12 months for best performance.
Everyone is different, so results vary and aren't guaranteed.
Part of the Toolbox
AV Edge doesn't replace sleep, nutrition, fitness, peer support, or professional care. It's one more tool alongside your department's wellness program, your EAP, and the people you trust. If you or someone you love is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
